How your degree comes together

1. Apply with a portfolio

Transcripts, certificates, bio or resume, awards, writings, citations, books or other published material.

2. Life experience assessed

CULA® faculty assess old college credits, military or work experience, self-taught knowledge, research and inquiry to award equivalent credits.

3. Complete your modules

Credits awarded are subtracted from those required to graduate. Most courses are 2 to 5 credits, one module per calendar month.

4. Advance to candidacy

No failing grades. Work is graded Satisfactory or With Distinction. Most accomplished individuals finish in one year or less.

CULA® graduates are change agents

Coretta Scott King, wife of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was awarded CULA’s first ever Honorary Doctorate in 1976. Ethel Kennedy, widow of Robert F. Kennedy, was the second woman so honored with a Doctor of Humane Letters to help memorialize her fallen husband. The late, great President Nelson Mandela was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1985, while he was still in his 27 years of prison confinement. Muhammad Ali was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, and none of CULA’s honorees was more “private” than Johnny Carson, king of late night television, Doctor of Television Entertainment.
